Checking for a Warrant in Forrest County
No single Forrest County desk answers the whole question. A Forrest County warrant may sit with the Twelfth Circuit Court and its Circuit Clerk, or with Justice Court, County or Youth Court, Chancery Court, or a municipal court in Hattiesburg or Petal. The Sheriff's Warrants and Process Unit serves county process but sends fine questions back to the ordering court. Work the channels in that order.
- Name the venue from the original event. A city ticket, a Forrest County citation, a felony charge, and a family court order each point to a different clerk.
- Call that clerk. Ask for the process label, case number, issue date, bond condition, and current status.
- Check Mississippi Electronic Courts for Circuit and County Court filings, which do not reach every city or Justice Court file.
- Call Forrest County dispatch at (601) 544-7800 for routing when the issuing court is unclear.
- Email a written records request to fcsorecords@co.forrest.ms.us when a verbal answer is not enough.
- Talk to a Mississippi attorney before traveling to any counter if arrest is a real possibility.
Why Forrest County Has No Single Warrant Search
Mississippi never built a public statewide warrant database, and Forrest County never built a countywide one. The Sheriff's homepage, its Patrol and Warrants page, its Most Wanted page, and its records page all lack a name-search box for active warrants. The county courts page lists clerks and phone numbers instead of a search form. That gap shapes every warrant lookup here. Treat it as a routing problem, not a dead end. Every Forrest County warrant still has a clerk, a case number, and a judge behind it. A bench warrant from Justice Court, a traffic warrant from a city court, and an arrest warrant from Circuit Court each live in a different file drawer. The task is finding which one holds yours, and the court staff can tell you when you reach the right counter.
Forrest County Warrant Types
Mississippi Rules of Criminal Procedure supply the legal frame for all of it. Local practice supplies the labels. A judge makes the probable cause call, then signs a warrant or, where the rules allow, a summons. The table below sorts the Forrest County process types a reader is most likely to meet.
| Warrant Type | How It Arises | Who Issues It |
|---|---|---|
| Arrest warrant | Sworn affidavit gives a judge probable cause under Rule 3.1 | Justice, Municipal, County, or Circuit judge |
| Bench warrant | Missed setting, contempt, or a broken condition | The judge holding the docket |
| Capias | Grand jury indictment, under Rule 5.1 | Circuit Court and Circuit Clerk |
| Mittimus | Commitment order sending a person into custody | Municipal or county judge |
| Search warrant | Probable cause to search under Rule 4.1 | Any judge with authority |
Note: A capias on an indictment follows a different post-arrest path than a Forrest County city bench warrant, so ask the clerk which label the file carries.
Warrant Status Words Used in Forrest County
Clerks and officers in Forrest County use a small vocabulary that outsiders misread. Hattiesburg publishes its own status codes. The state court rules define the process terms, and the Circuit Clerk uses electronic docket language. Learning four Forrest County words saves a second call.
- Capias
- A custody order. Mississippi Rule 5.1 treats a capias issued on an indictment differently from an ordinary warrant.
- Mittimus
- A commitment order. Hattiesburg tracks mittimuses beside warrants and applies the same status codes.
- Recalled
- The court pulled the process back. It does not mean the charge was dismissed or the fine was paid.
- Summons
- An order to appear instead of an order to arrest. Rule 3.1 lets a judge choose it in some cases.
Inside a Forrest County Warrant Record
The clearest local picture of warrant fields comes from Hattiesburg's published Legal Process policy, which lists what a city clerk records when a judge signs. County and Circuit files carry similar identifiers under Mississippi Rule 3.2. No Forrest County office publishes a warrant-number format. So quote the reference number printed on your own paperwork.
| Reference number | Hattiesburg generates a warrant number at entry; county files use the court's case or cause number |
|---|---|
| Process type | Arrest, traffic, bench, capias, mittimus, search |
| Charge code | The statute or ordinance behind the order |
| Issuing judge and date | Signature, judge number, and date of issue |
| Bond | Amount or release condition where the judge set one |
| Status | Local labels such as Active or docket flags such as Capias Pending |
| Service record | Officer, date, method, and address attempted |
Forrest County Courts That Issue Warrants
Five public court counters serve Forrest County, and each keeps its own files. The county courts page maps them with addresses and phone numbers, and shows how far apart the offices sit. Match your matter to the right row before you dial.
Each section carries a separate clerk. That is why one call rarely settles a Forrest County warrant question.
| Court | Warrant Matters It Holds | Contact |
|---|---|---|
| Circuit Court | Felony dockets, indictment capias | 630 Main Street, (601) 582-3213 |

Issuing and Serving Warrants in Forrest County
In Forrest County, judges issue, clerks keep, and officers serve. Under Mississippi law a sheriff or deputy, a constable, a city police officer or marshal, and certain other officers may execute a warrant, and the return goes back to the issuing court's clerk. Service work lives in a Warrants and Process Unit inside the Sheriff's Operations bureau, led by Lieutenant Allen Parker under Sheriff Charlie Sims. The unit's own page explains its role and its limits.
It says the Forrest County unit apprehends people with outstanding fines and criminal warrants and serves process papers. It also lists court phone numbers for anyone asking about an unpaid fine.

Forrest County Warrants by the Numbers
Census figures show how many people live in Forrest County, which sets the workload scale for its courts. No office there publishes a count of active warrants.
The Census Bureau puts the 2025 estimate at 79,034 people. Four Justice Court districts cover the county outside city limits. Only Hattiesburg and Petal run their own police and municipal courts. No official Forrest County source publishes an outstanding-warrant count, so treat any such figure on a private site with suspicion.
If You Have a Warrant in Forrest County
Confirm first, then plan. Once a Forrest County clerk gives you the process label and case number, ask what the court will accept: payment, a plan, a new setting, a bond, an appearance with counsel, or a motion to recall or quash. No countywide recall form exists here. The Sheriff publishes no walk-in surrender window, so the court's instruction is the plan. Recall is not dismissal. A recalled warrant leaves the underlying case where it was, which is why the receipt or written order matters as much as the call. Bond hours at the Forrest County Adult Detention Center are published. Bond amounts are not, so ask before you travel.
Important: Talk to a Mississippi attorney before surrendering or appearing on an active warrant, because a routine traffic stop can turn into an arrest at any hour.
Forrest County Warrant Roundups and Amnesty
Forrest County has seen both sides of the warrant coin: a court-authorized break for people with old tickets, and a sheriff-led roundup of people with active warrants. Neither one is standing policy today. Hattiesburg announced its fine-reduction window on February 2, 2015, knocking 25 percent off citations issued before January 1, 2014, and it ran from February 9 through March 27. No similar amnesty has been posted in Forrest County since. Enforcement made its own headlines when WDAM reported a countywide Sheriff's operation from May 20 to 25, 2024. It produced 15 arrests. That figure covers one week of news, not the county's whole caseload. A roundup and an amnesty are opposites, and knowing the difference matters: one is enforcement, while the other is a court-authorized chance to settle what is owed.
Forrest County Warrant Records and Public Access
Mississippi treats public records as public property, and Forrest County warrant paperwork filed with a court is generally open once it is no longer restricted. The limits matter as much as the right. Sealed cases, youth court matters, active investigations, and unexecuted search warrants can sit outside a public counter, and the state judiciary applies its own access policy to court files. Ask what applies before you assume a file is closed.
Key Rules:
Mississippi Code §§ 25-61-1 through 25-61-17 gives any person the right to inspect and copy public records, subject to written procedures, costs, and exemptions.
Mississippi Code § 99-3-1 sets out who may make an arrest in Mississippi, including sheriffs, deputies, constables, and city officers.
Mississippi Code § 99-3-7 covers arrest on a warrant for a misdemeanor and arrest on probable cause without one.
Mississippi Rules of Criminal Procedure 3.2 and 4.3 fix what a warrant must contain, how it is executed, and when it must be returned.
If a Forrest County office denies a request, ask for the written reason and the exemption claimed. The Mississippi Ethics Commission takes complaints under the act.
Requesting Forrest County Warrant Records
When a phone answer is not enough, the Forrest County Sheriff's Office takes written requests by email and charges actual cost. Its form cites the state records act and asks for dates, names, case numbers, and identifiers, since broad requests come back for clarification. The records page on the sheriff's site sets out the email route and the advance-payment rule that goes with it.
Send the completed form to fcsorecords@co.forrest.ms.us, choose inspection, paper, or electronic delivery, and ask for an estimate before work begins on your request.

What to Have Ready Before You Call
Clerks in Forrest County answer faster when a caller brings identifiers instead of a story. Gather this much before any Forrest County warrant call. Keep the paperwork in front of you while you talk.
- The legal name as it appears on the citation, plus a date of birth
- The citation, case, or cause number, which ties a paper ticket to a court docket
- The original court date and the city or county where the event happened
- Any receipt, notice, or bond paperwork you already hold
- A pen for the process label, issue date, status, bond, and next setting
Note: Never email a Social Security number, card number, or scanned identification to an unverified caller or site claiming to handle a Forrest County warrant.
Forrest County Warrants by City
Two cities in Forrest County run their own police and municipal courts. Hattiesburg is one, and the other handles its own cases too. A ticket written inside city limits stays in that city's court file, not with the county clerks. Miss a city setting and a bench warrant follows from that same municipal court. For how those routes split, see the bench warrant routing page.
