Forrest County Warrant Records Forrest County Warrant Records

Skip the courthouse for city matters. Two cities in Forrest County run their own courts, and a warrant from either one may never appear in a county file: Hattiesburg Municipal Court and Petal Municipal Court. Each court keeps its own docket, its own status codes, and its own payment rules. The city clerk holds the answers. A Forrest County municipal court warrant usually starts with a city ticket or a missed city setting, so have the citation number, the original date, and a legal name ready. Ask what the judge will accept, then follow that instruction exactly.

Forrest County Municipal Court Warrants

A Forrest County municipal court warrant comes from a city judge working a city case. The docket covers ordinance violations and city traffic citations. Misdemeanor arrests by city officers land here too. So do personal affidavits sworn at the city court and failures to appear on any of those matters. Hattiesburg Municipal Court also handles first appearances and preliminary hearings for felony defendants, which is one reason its process file carries so many document types. Separation matters here. A city case does not become a Justice Court case, a Circuit Court case, or a Sheriff's matter just because all of them sit inside Forrest County. The lines stay distinct.

Forrest County City Warrants and the Sheriff

Deputies field calls about city tickets every day in Forrest County. The conversations rarely go the way callers hope. The Sheriff's Warrants and Process Unit serves county process and coordinates apprehension. A deputy still cannot recall a Hattiesburg judge's order. Nor can one set a new Petal court date. Hattiesburg's own Legal Process policy draws the line from the other side: municipal criminal process belongs to the city's Warrants Unit, and any sworn city officer may serve it. Civil process, meanwhile, runs through the Sheriff and the county route. Neither agency doubles as the other's clerk.

Forrest County Cities With Municipal Courts

Forrest County has two incorporated court cities. Census place records name Hattiesburg and Petal only, each with a municipal court and a police department of its own. Unincorporated Forrest County communities route to Justice Court instead.

Note: Hattiesburg police records sit at a separate address from the court, so a records question and a case question go to different counters in Forrest County.

Hattiesburg Warrant Policy in Forrest County

Hattiesburg publishes a Legal Process policy, the most detailed municipal warrant source in Forrest County. It describes a warrant maintenance file. The file records the incident date and time, whether the process is criminal or traffic, the nature of the document, and the source as officer or citizen. It also captures the affidavit type, defendant descriptors, the issuing judge and date, and the statute or charge code. The bond amount and comments go in as well. Five update sections hold information learned during service attempts.

Checking a Municipal Court Warrant

Neither Forrest County city publishes a public warrant search. City process is checked by phone and in person, so run the channels in order.

  1. Call the city court clerk directly and give the citation or case number.
  2. Ask whether the file shows a bench warrant, a traffic process, a capias, or a mittimus.
  3. Ask whether the matter is payable, or whether the judge must act first.
  4. Use the city-linked payment portal only when the clerk confirms it applies to your case.
  5. Ask whether the Forrest County Sheriff has been sent a copy of the process.
  6. File a written public records request with the city when you need the document itself.
  7. Call Sheriff's dispatch only to learn whether a separate Forrest County process exists.

Forrest County City Warrant Status Codes

The published Forrest County city codes are unusually specific, and a caller who recognizes them understands the answer far better. None says anything about how the underlying case ended.

SPP and SPC
Served per police and served per collection agency. Both record who executed the process, not what the court decided.
PPA and PPC
Partial-payment agency and partial-payment collection. A missed installment can make the full balance due and lead to arrest or added charges.
Pending
An affidavit sits in the city system before a judge has reviewed and issued it.
Non-collectable
Service leads have run out. The process can still be alive even with this code attached.

Inside a Municipal Court Warrant

A Forrest County municipal warrant file blends court fields with police fields, so a clerk may check two spots. Ask for these items by name.

Petal Court Dates and Forrest County Warrants

Petal keeps a tighter schedule than most Forrest County readers expect. Missing it is the usual route to city process. Regular court sits the first and third Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. on a first-come basis. Trials follow at 1:30 p.m. the same days.

The city judicial page covers Petal's schedule. It names Court Clerk Michelle Strebeck at (601) 582-5351. A scheduled person must appear, and no continuance comes over the phone.

Note: With two sitting days a month, a missed Petal setting can delay a Forrest County city case for weeks.

How to Resolve a Municipal Court Warrant

Forrest County city courts resolve a municipal warrant in four ways. Pay what the court accepts, appear on a new setting, ask the judge to recall the process, or have counsel file a motion. The clerk, not preference, decides which one applies. Keep the paper trail. A receipt proves the step. So does a docket entry or a written recall order. A vendor confirmation alone does not update a Forrest County court file.

Note: Ask the clerk to name the exact document that will show the change, then request a copy of it once the judge acts.

Ask about the whole case. Recalling a city warrant leaves the original citation, fine, or charge in place, so confirm what still has to be answered afterward.

Outside-Agency Holds on Forrest County Warrants

Clearing one warrant does not always free a person. That is the trap in Forrest County. Hattiesburg's release and bail policy offers a narrow officer-discretion release for certain nonviolent misdemeanors, then excludes several categories. Among them: an outstanding Hattiesburg Municipal Court bench warrant or mittimus, and any warrant issued by another agency.

Ask every clerk the same last question: does any other Forrest County court, city, probation authority, or outside agency show a separate hold on this case?

Sometimes the answer is a roster, not a docket. Forrest County readers can check the most wanted program page, which explains what that page is and what it is not.
